How to Use the Word & Character Counter

What It Does:

This tool analyzes your text and provides:

  • Total character count (including spaces and punctuation)
  • Total character count (excluding spaces and punctuation)
  • Total word count
  • Frequency list of each word, sorted from most to least frequent

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Enter or paste your text into the Original Text area.
  2. The Result field updates live with:
    • Words: total number of words detected
    • Characters (incl.): total length of the text
    • Characters (excl.): length after stripping spaces & punctuation
    • Frequency: each unique word and its count, from highest to lowest
  3. Click Copy to copy the entire report, or Clear to reset.

Tips:

  • Words are detected as sequences of letters or numbers (Unicode-aware).
  • All word matching is case-insensitive; “Apple” and “apple” are counted together.
  • Punctuation and spaces are only stripped for the second character count.
